Can increased competition for jobs explain interview lying?

چکیده

We examine a supposedly positive relation between competition in a job contest and interview lying. In the basic model two candidates are interviewed by a recruiter concerning a vacancy. The applicants can be high or low performing, which is private information. During the interviews the applicants make a statement about their performance (a cheap talk phase) and afterwards the recruiter receives two independent signals about the applicants’ types. We show that an increase in the expected "quality" of the applicants can (i) cause a sudden increase in interview lying (i.e. failure of a separating equilibrium), and (ii) make the recruiter, ex ante, worse off.

We propose a graph mining methodology to analyze the relationships among academic programs from the point of view of cooperative education. The input consists of student job interview pairs, with each student labelled with his or her academic program. Knowledge spillovers in cities: An auction approach

These knowledge bids resemble a consultant’s pitch to a potential client. Two fundamental properties of knowledge underlie the model: First, it is often necessary to reveal some knowledge to demonstrate its value. Second, knowle...

Are trade-displaced workers able to move into new jobs which offer pay comparable to that on the jobs lost to international competition, or are these layoffs a pat...

When the Herd Is Smart: Aggregate Behavior in the Selection of Job Request

In most parallel supercomputers, submitting a job for execution involves specifying how many processors are to be allocated to the job. Since most jobs are moldable, this res...
